Great outdoor design is not about selecting beautiful plants and hoping for the best. It is about understanding how people move through a space, what they notice first, what makes them stay longer, and what makes them come back.
At Chen Studio Exteriors we approach every commercial landscape project the way an architect approaches a building. We think about structure before we think about surface. We consider function before we consider form. And then we bring the boldness — because playing it safe is the fastest way to be forgotten.
Every project we take on is overseen personally by Lily Chen from the first site visit to the final installation. No handoffs. No shortcuts. Just fearless, considered design built to last.

Chen Studio Exteriors was built on commercial hospitality work. But the same fearless design philosophy that transforms a hotel courtyard belongs in the outdoor environments of extraordinary private properties that deserve it.
We work with a select number of private estate clients each year. These are multi-acre compounds, architectural estates, and private residences where the landscape is as important as the structure itself. This is not suburban landscaping. It is full-scale outdoor environment design for properties where the grounds are a meaningful part of what makes the home exceptional.
If that sounds like your property, we would love to hear from you.
"We had a modest budget for our outdoor terrace and Lily helped us understand exactly what was possible within it. The result was beyond what we imagined. The terrace has been featured in two food publications and guests ask about it every single week."
"We came to Chen Studio with a compound that had four distinct outdoor areas and no cohesive vision connecting them. Lily saw the potential in each space immediately and designed environments that made the whole property feel intentional for the first time. It is a completely different place now."
"The botanical installation Lily and her team designed for our lobby entrance has become the single most talked about element of our property. Every guest photographs it. Every review mentions it. It has transformed the way people experience arrival at our hotel."
Every project concludes with a full closeout documentation package including final photography, a complete plant and material specification guide, and a maintenance reference for every element we have installed. We also stay available for questions in the weeks following installation as your environment settles and establishes itself.
Yes. Chen Studio Exteriors manages the full project lifecycle from concept through installation. We coordinate all vendors and contractors on your behalf and Lily personally oversees every installation. You have one point of contact throughout the entire project.
Every project is scoped and priced individually based on the size, complexity, and scope of the environment. We do not offer package pricing because no two projects are the same. After an initial consultation and site assessment, we provide a detailed project proposal with a full scope and investment breakdown. There are no surprises.
Yes. Chen Studio Exteriors takes on select national projects for hospitality brands and private estates. Travel and accommodation costs for out-of-state projects are discussed during the initial consultation and outlined in your project agreement. We are comfortable working in any climate and have designed environments across the Southwest and beyond.
We recommend reaching out three to six months before your desired start date for hospitality and restaurant projects, and six to twelve months for large-scale estate or multi-environment projects. Our calendar fills quickly and we take on a limited number of projects each year. Earlier is always better.
